Updating Embarque for Windows 3.1/3.11 for Inland Internet's New DNS

Introduction

In order to improve performance and reliability Inland Internet Inc. has changed the way that we get our Internet connection. This change requires some modifications to your current configuration of our Embarque software. Each computer that connects to the Internet is assigned a number that uniquely identifies it to the "network." The computer we use to connect to the Internet has had its numbers changed because of the new company we are using. In order for your connection to function correctly your system must be made aware of these number changes.

Instructions

Start Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.11.

Inside [Program Manager] you should have a program group (basically a box) called [Accessories]. To open the Accessories program group, double-click the "box" to open it up. This will display the contents of Accessories.

Inside, you should have an application called [Notepad]. Double-Click the icon that says Notepad under it. This loads the Notepad application which we will use to make the number changes.

You should now see a window on your screen that says 'Notepad' at the top of it. In the top left corner of the 'Notepad' window you should see a small horizontal line that looks like a wide subtraction sign. Click on this line and a small menu window will appear. Inside that menu window, click on the word [Maximize].

In the 'Notepad' menu bar, click on the word [File] and then click on the word [Open] under the File menu. This will bring up a window that asks you what file you want to work with. 0n the top right-hand-side, it is listing the current directory (folder) that you are in (something like c:\windows) under the listing is a box that is displaying the directories on your hard drive. You most likely installed our Embarque software on your hard drive, usually drive C: If you installed it on a different drive, then choose the correct drive letter in the drop down list box in the lower right-hand corner. Once you are on the correct drive, double-click on the c:\ with the little yellow folder to the left of it (inside the directory list box on the right-hand-side). This displays all of the other directories (little yellow folders) that are on your hard drive.

Under the yellow folder with the C:\ next to it, you should see a listing of other directories (with yellow folders next to them). Use the down arrow on your keyboard, or the scroll bar, to find a little yellow folder with the word 'embarque' next to it (if you installed embarque into another directory then you must go to the directory that you installed it to. If you did not change it when you installed, embarque was installed in C:\EMBARQUE). When you find this folder, double-click on the word 'embarque' to open the folder and to display the other folders that are under it.

One the folders under C:\EMBARQUE is a folder called winsock . Double-click on this folder so it opens up and displays its contents in the window on the left-hand side. One of the files listed on the left hand side will be a file called trumpwsk.ini . Click on this file so that its name becomes highlighted, then click on the [Open] button. This will bring the file up in Notepad so it can be edited.

The fifth line down should look like this:

dns=206.117.116.1 206.117.116.2

You need to change it exactly to this:

dns=207.155.59.1 207.155.59.2

Once you have changed those numbers, you need to save and exit the file. In the 'Notepad' menu bar, click on the word [File] and then click on the word [Save] under the File menu. Next, in the 'Notepad' menu bar, click on the word [File] and then click on the word [Exit] under the File menu. You are done.

Embarque should now be configured correctly. Connect to Inland Internet like you normally do. The changes you made have been saved and will be used the next time you connect to us.
