Inland Internet. - Updating Windows 95 to the New IP Addresses

Copyright © 1996 by Inland Internet, Inc.

This document contains information on how to update WINDOWS 95 to the new IP addresses that will be used by Inland Internet on and after 10-24-96. ALL Inland Internet customers must change to the new IP addresses on or after October 24, 1996 in order for their Internet connection to work. DO NOT make these changes to your system before 10-24-96. This document explains how to make these changes to Windows 95 and should be used by existing Inland Internet customers. Any customer that established service on or after 10-24-96 can disregard this document. Software installed and configured after 10-24-96 is already using these new IP addresses.

: Where to Go and What to Do

Start Windows 95. Double-click on the [My Computer] icon to open it up. (This is in the top-left corner of most Windows 95 machines.) Inside of "My Computer" you should see a [Dial-Up Networking Folder]. Double-click it to open it up. You should now see an icon for your Inland Internet connection. Most systems should have an icon that says "Inland Internet", if you do not see "Inland Internet" you will most likely see an icon that says, "My Connection". Whichever icon you use for your Inland Internet connection, RIGHT click on the icon's picture with your RIGHT mouse button, this will bring up a context menu. Select the word [Properties] from the menu that pops up.

On the window that pops up, you should see a button that says [Server Type…] at the bottom-right of the window. Click it once to bring up the Server Types window. At the bottom-right of the Server Types window, you should see a button that says, [TCP/IP Settings…]. Click it once to bring up the TCP/IP Settings window. Make the TCP/IP Settings window look EXACTLY like this picture:

When your window looks exactly like the one above, (that being: Server assigned IP address is selected, Specify name server addresses is selected, Primary DNS has 207.155.59.1 next to it, Secondary DNS has 207.155.59.2 next to it, Primary and Secondary WINS both have 0.0.0.0 next to themselves, Use IP header compression is NOT checked, and Use default gateway on remote network IS checked) you may continue.

Now that you have ensured that you have made ALL correct changes, click the [OK] button on the TCP/IP Settings window. Now click [OK] on the Server Types window. Finally, click the [OK] button on the original "Inland Internet" or "My Connection" properties window. You are done. You may now connect to Inland Internet like you normally do.
