Configuring Windows 95 to Connect To Inland Internet Inc.

Introduction

Welcome to Inland Internet. This document will help you configure Windows 95 so that you can connect to us with your modem. The following instructions assume that Dial-Up Networking has already been installed on your system (by you or the company you purchased your computer from). It is also assumed that your modem has been properly installed and configured. If this is not the case, refer to your Windows 95 documentation, on-line Help, or the company you purchased your computer from for information on these topics.

Time to Get Personal - Giving Inland Internet A Place of Its Own :-)

Click on the [Start] button, move your mouse pointer to highlight the word [Programs], then move your pointer to the right and highlight the word [Accessories], under Accessories keep moving to the right and highlight the words [Dial-Up Networking] and then click your left mouse button once to select it. (If Dial-Up Networking is not listed as an option, please read the Introduction section above.)

The Dial-Up networking window should open and display all of your Dial-Up connections. Inside this window you should see an icon that says, "Make New Connection". Double-Click on this icon to run this setup wizard. When the "Make New Connection" window comes up, the computer is asking you to "Type in a name for the computer you are dialing". Push the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard to clear the words "My Connection". Inside the text box that you have just cleared, type in, Inland Internet. This will create a new connection icon that we have named Inland Internet. Below this, the window says, "Select a modem:", your modem should already be displayed in this box. If it is not, you must install and/or configure your modem before you continue (refer to your Windows 95 documentation, Help menus, or the company you bought your system from for instructions on doing this, usually your modem has already been setup before you bought your machine). If your modem is displayed, click on the [Next] button to continue.

The next screen is asking you for the phone number to dial to connect to us. It is up to you to call your operator to determine which number is a no charge local call, or which number is the least expensive for you to call. Inland Internet DOES NOT guarantee that any of these numbers will be local to you. Please verify the best number for you to call with your phone company's operator. The current access numbers are listed below, choose the best for you:

Sun City, CA (909) 301-0514

Temecula, CA (909) 698-7815

Hemet, CA (909) 791-1140

Riverside, CA (909) 786-1300

Inside the current window it is showing the area code and phone number that your computer will dial when you want to connect to us. Under the label that says Area code, it should have the number 909 inside. If it does not, change the area code to 909. The box to the right of that wants the actual telephone number. Type in whichever phone number you chose from above inside this box. DO NOT include the area code again, just the phone number. (Example: to call the Sun City number you would type in 301-0514 inside the telephone number box). After you have entered the phone number, click the [Next] button to continue.

The next screen should say, "You have successfully created a new Dial-Up Networking connection called: Inland Internet. If it does not say this, click on the "Back" button and double check all of the settings. If it does say this, click on the [Finish] button to continue.

Inside the Dial-Up Networking window you should now have an icon that you use to connect to Inland Internet. This icon should be named "Inland Internet" because that is what we named it in the steps above. Click on the Inland Internet icon once to highlight it. Once it is highlighted, click on the word [File], in the Dial-Up Networking menu bar, now click on the word [Properties] under the File menu.

A window with the relevant settings will come up. At the bottom of this window is a button that says [Server Type], click on this button to display the settings for our server.

Make your Server Types window look like the picture below:

When your screen looks like the one above, click on the button that says, [TCP/IP Settings...] and the TCP/IP settings window will come up.

Make your TCP/IP Settings window look like the picture below:

When your screen looks EXACTLY like the one above, click the [OK], button.

Then click the [OK] button in the Server Types window.

Now click the [OK] button in the "Inland Internet" window. (The name may be something different if you have named the connection something other than "Inland Internet".)

This closes the Inland Internet properties window and saves the changes we have made.

You should now see the Dial-Up Networking window again. Click once on the icon that says Inland Internet to highlight it. Now click on the word [File] in the Dial-Up Networking menu bar, under the File menu, click on [Create Shortcut], a window will pop up that asks you if you want to create a shortcut on the desktop instead. If you choose the [Yes] button you will always have an icon that you can Double-Click to connect to us that is easily found on your Windows 95 desktop. If you choose the No button you must always go to the Dial-Up Networking window and then Double-Click on the Inland Internet icon to connect to us. The recommended choice is the Yes button to create an easy shortcut to us on your desktop.

You can now close the Dial-Up Networking window by clicking on the X in the top-right corner of the Dial-Up Networking window.

Windows 95 should now be configured correctly. To connect to Inland Internet, Double-Click on the Inland Internet icon to bring up the [Connect to:] window.

To connect to Inland Internet, type in your login name (in all lowercase letters), inside of the "Username" text box. Inside the "Password" box, type in your password.

Now, click the [Connect] button to connect to Inland Internet. The automatic log in procedure should take from 30 to 60 seconds. When you have successfully connected to Inland Internet, you will see a window pop up that says, "Connected at 00000 bps", where 00000 will be replaced by the actual speed of your modem. As long as this window is displayed, you are connected to Inland Internet and you can run any Internet application that you wish. When you have finished using your Internet programs, you can disconnect from Inland Internet by clicking the [Disconnect] button.
