Configuring the MacTCP Dialer

These instructions are for Macintosh users running MacTCP
(OS v7.5 or older most likely).

Section 1: Selecting PPP in MacTCP

This section is important to those who may have installed InterSlip or have configured/used another form of networking (Ethertalk etc) on their computer.
  • Select the Apple Menu, then Control Panel, then MacTCP.
  • If anything other that PPP is darkened, select PPP and restart the computer.
  • You do NOT want to have both InterSLIP and PPP on your computer at the same time. If you have both, I suggest keeping PPP, and completely deleting InterSLIP. To delete InterSLIP, find and delete the following items:
    • InterSLIP Setup in the Apple Menu Items folder of the System folder.
    • InterSLIP Control in the Control Panels folder of the System folder.
    • InterSLIP in the Extension folder of the System folder.
    • InterSLIP Folder in the Preferences folder of the System folder.
  • If you have (or had) Interslip, you must select another object (other than PPP, like Ethertalk) and then close MacTCP. Now reopen MacTCP, select PPP, and RESTART the computer.

Section 2: Configuring MacTCP

Click on the more button seen in the Section 1 picture above, and you should see the following options:
  • Obtain Address: Server
  • IP Address: Class 'C'
  • Domain: inland.net
  • Domain IP Address: 199.120.150.50
  • All other settings are NOT important. The picture below shows the correct configuration for RidgeNet.

Section3: Config PPP

This section rarely needs changing, but I have included a picture to show the correct configuration. This section is also the launching point for the next two sections. To get here, select Apple Menu, then Control Panels, then Config PPP.

Section 4: Config

To reach this section, click on the button marked Config... as seen in the Section 3 picture above. The only thing to check here is the phone #. Subscribers with 28.8 modems should use See Local Access List . If you have call waiting, you will need to disable it for the duration of your Inland Internet connection. You can do this by adding a *70, to the front of the phone number. For example, a subscriber with a 56k modem and call waiting would have: *70,723-4130

Section 5: Connect Script

To reach this section, click on the button marked Connect Script... as seen in the Section 4 picture above. The picture below shows the correct settings for the connect script. Everything should be blank as shown below.
