PHILOSOPHY

It is not my intent to be a production tool maker. Even though all my knives are heat treated, tempered, sharpened and fit the hand, I have little or no interest in a functional knife. There are numerous other makers of high quality hunting, utility and "using" knives.

Coming from an art background, I have approached knife making as an alternative way to create in three dimensions. The steels, ivories, woods and other knifemaking materials have provided an interesting challenge quite different from the clay I have been using most of my adult life.

Every knife I make begins existence in two dimensions; whether on the computer or sketched out freehand. I do not create knives "by accident." Therefore, I consider each knife a carefully planned work of art. Handle material and scrimshaw decoration are almost always part of the original design. Blades are not ground until the concept for that specific piece has been developed.
